Required Documents for Lithuania Schengen Visa

 

Documents for a Lithuanian Schengen visa application must be written in Latin letters and completed or translated into English or Lithuanian.

 

•             Valid passport

o             At least 2 blank pages

o             With the applicant’s signature

o             Not more than 10 years old

o             Valid for at least 3 months after the expiration of the requested visa

o             Previous passport, if applicable

•             Passport-sized photos

o             Size 3.5 x 4.5 cm

o             Plain white background

o             Taken within the past 6 months

o             Forward-facing with facial features visible and clear

•             Completed application form

•             Biometric data (Fingerprints)

•             Visa fee

•             Documents pertinent to your trip

o             Travel Itinerary or plan

o             Proof of return to the country of residence or forward ticket to another country

o             Reason for travel to Lithuania

o             Flight reservations

o             Proof of financial means (bank statements over the last 3-month period, personal properties, and/or other assets)

o             Proof of accommodations (with booking reference number, location, and contact number of the hotel)

•             Travel medical insurance

o             Valid through the entire visa period

o             Valid in all Schengen countries

o             A minimum coverage of 30,000 EUR must be purchased

o             Insurance conditions such as validity, duration, and extent of your coverage to be clearly stated on the confirmation letter or insurance document

•             Employment letter with the following information:

o             Name and address of employer

o             Nature of employment

o             Starting date of employment

o             Salary

o             Purpose of travel

o             Duration of time off from work for travel

•             Scans (copies) of:

o Personal ID page of the passport.

o             Older Schengen visas (if relevant).

o             Residence permit (if relevant).

Applicants below the age of 18 are required to submit the following additional requirements

•             Copy of birth certificate

o             If the minor applicant is adopted, adoption documents are required

o             If the minor applicant's parents are divorced, divorce papers are required

o             If the minor applicant's parents are deceased, death certificates are required

•             Letter of consent from both parents or legal guardians

•             Passport copies of both parents or legal guardians

It may also be necessary to submit supplementary documents in relation to your travel visa application.

 
Lithuania Visa Application Steps

 

1.            Prepare all the required documents.

2.            Select “Tourism” as the reason for travel on the visa application form.

3.            Decide the number of entries needed to Lithuania or the Schengen area.

4.            Fill out the application form.

o             Generally, applications for a Lithuanian Schengen visa are lodged online through this . It must be filled in using Latin letters. The application will be submitted to the consular services of the Republic of Lithuania. Aside from submitting the application electronically, the form must also be printed out and submitted to the nearest Lithuanian Consulate or visa processing center.

5.            Schedule a visa appointment, if applicable.

o             Most applications require an in-person appointment at the nearest Lithuanian Consulate or visa center in order to submit the application. Alternatively, applications may be submitted without prior appointment during normal operating hours. Contact the Lithuanian Consulate or visa center to determine if there is a need to schedule an appointment.

6.            Submit your Lithuanian Schengen visa application.

o             Note: Applications must be submitted at least 15 days before the date of travel but not earlier than 6 months before the date of travel.

o             Generally, applications must be submitted in person to the Lithuanian Consulate or visa processing center. However, there may be a few differences in the submission procedures.

o             Applicants will likely be required to submit their fingerprints (biometric data). Children below the age of 12 are exempted from fingerprint data collection. Applicants who have submitted their fingerprints within the last 59 months will most likely not be asked to resubmit.

o             Applicants may also be asked to come back on another date for an interview regarding their trip.

7.            Pay the visa application fee.

 

When to Apply for Lithuania Visa

 

Visa applications must be submitted at least 15 days before the travel date but not earlier than 6 months before the travel date.

Where to Apply

•             Applications should be submitted either through the Lithuanian Consulate or a visa application center that is connected with Lithuania.

•             Applications should be submitted only in the country of citizenship or residence.

•             In countries without any Lithuanian consulate, applications may be submitted through a Schengen state consulate representing the interests of a Lithuanian consulate.

•             In countries without any Lithuanian consulate or Schengen consulate representing the interest of a Lithuanian consulate, applications may be submitted to the most conveniently located Lithuanian consulate or embassy.

 

Lithuania Visa Processing Time

 

Generally, it takes approximately 15 days to process Lithuania Schengen visa applications. However, in some cases it might take as long as 60 days.

For approved visa applications:

Applicants must ensure that the information on the visa is complete and valid upon collection.

Applicants who have received their Schengen Visa for Lithuania should remember the following things:

•             Inform the Lithuanian Consulate or visa application center of any change to your itinerary after submission is completed.

•             The approval of a Schengen visa does not guarantee entry upon arrival to Lithuania or other countries in the Schengen area.

•             Additional documents pertaining to your financial means or accommodation may still be required to gain entry to Lithuania or other Schengen areas.

For denied Lithuania visa applications:

If your application for a Lithuanian Schengen visa was rejected, you have the right to appeal the decision.

The appeal process begins by picking up the standard-issued visa refusal form which also has the details of the reason for the rejection and the procedures of the appeal process.

A non-refundable fee must be paid for the appeal to be processed.

Types of Lithuania Work Permits

There are several types of work permits issued in Lithuania, but they usually include:

•             Work visa for highly skilled workers (EU Blue Card)

•             Work visa for intra-company transfers.

•             Work permit for employment in Lithuania.

•             Seasonal work visa.

EU Blue Card in Lithuania

To qualify for an EU Blue Card in Lithuania, you need to meet the following requirements to be considered a highly skilled worker:

•             You have a higher education.

•             You have at least five years of professional experience equivalent to higher education.

•             You have an employer in Lithuania who needs to hire you for your skills.

•             You will be paid at least 1.5 times the average monthly salary in Lithuania.

•             Your profession is listed in the list of professions that require a high skilled qualification which is lacking in Lithuania.

If you qualify for an EU Blue Card, you will receive a temporary residence permit, usually valid for two years— you will be required to apply via MIGRIS (Lithuanian Migration Information System). In addition, your employer may be required to apply to the Employment Service’s territorial division to make sure your employment meets the requirements of the Labor Division.

Intra-company Transfer Work Visa

You can apply for this type of work visa if your company is sending you to work with a branch of your company or the same company group located in the Republic of Lithuania. In addition, you are eligible for this visa if you will be transferred as a manager, a specialist, or an employee (including trainees or students who will start their internship).

To stay in the country, you will need to apply for a residence permit as soon as you enter the country via MIGRIS (Lithuanian Migration Information System).

Work Permit in Lithuania

This is one of the most common work visas you can get in Lithuania if you’ve found employment in Lithuania. However, for this type of visa, your employer may be required to first apply for a work permit from the Labor Services in Lithuania. Therefore, you need to discuss this with your employer first to see which documents you need to prepare.

If you receive a work permit, you must apply for a national D visa and enter the country. Although holders of work permits are usually not granted residence permits, they can stay in the country with their national D visa for up to a year.

 

Seasonal Work Permit

A seasonal work permit is only issued if:

•             There is no suitable Lithuanian employee available for seasonal work.

•             You will work under an employment contract.

•             You have a place of residence in Lithuania.

•             Seasonal work is part of the list of jobs available at the Seasonal Work approved by the Minister of Social Security and Labor.

 

Applying for a Lithuania Work Visa

 

To apply for a Lithuania work visa, you must:

•             Obtain a work permit. The Lithuania Labour Exchange issues the work permit. Your employer needs to apply for this permit on your behalf— you need to provide your employer with several documents before they can apply to the Employment Services in Lithuania for a permit. This step may not be required depending on the type of the work visa— your employer and Migration Department will let you know.

•             Locate the closest Lithuanian embassy or consulate. Before you can apply for a temporary residence permit, you need to apply for a work visa at your country’s nearest embassy/consulate.

•             Fill out the application form for a national visa. The form is available online on the Migration Department website and must state the type of visa you are applying for.

•             Collect all required documents. The requirements include documents such as a passport, a photo, valid health insurance, etc.

•             Attend the appointment. Submit the documents when you go to the embassy or consulate.

•             Wait for an answer. Processing times usually take around fourteen days.

After You Enter Lithuania

After you enter Lithuania, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit. Please note that this is required only if your work visa leads to a residence permit in Lithuania. If you’re unsure if this applies to you, you need to contact the Migration Department in Lithuania for further information.

You must complete the application for a temporary residence permit via MIGRIS (Lithuanian Migration Information System). On the other hand, you also need to register your residence at the Migration Office, which will then send the data to the Centre of Registers. If your residence is under someone else’s name, you must also submit a permit signed by the owner.

Lithuania Work Visa Processing Time

The usual time needed to process a Lithuanian work visa is around two weeks. However, you can start the application process up to six months before your planned trip to Lithuania. The earlier you apply for a Lithuanian work visa, the sooner you will get an answer on your application.

Lithuania Work Visa Requirements

You will need the following documents when you apply for a Lithuania long-stay work visa:

•             A long-stay visa application form. You can usually find the application form online on the Migration Department website, just click on the type of visa you want to apply for.

•             A mediation (invitation) letter. The letter must also include information about the Lithuanian employer and the employee.

•             A valid passport. The travel document must also have two blank pages available.

•             The work permit issued by the Lithuanian Labour Exchange. A Lithuanian employer must apply on your behalf.

•             Sufficient means of subsistence. You must submit a bank statement to showcase your regular income.

•             Health insurance. Prior health insurance is required before entering Lithuania. Afterward, you can enroll in the national compulsory health insurance system.

•             Proof of no criminal record. The document cannot be older than three months.

•             Proof of professional accreditation. You must submit a document that showcases your qualifications for the job.

All documents must be legalized and must contain the apostille stamp before submission. The documents must also be written in or translated into Lithuanian.

 

Lithuania Work Visa Fees

The work visa, just like any other long-stay visa, costs €120. Although the visa application is made online, you are advised to pay the visa fee at the Lithuanian embassy or consulate. After paying the visa fee, you will be given a document that proves that you have paid the fee. You must add this document to your visa application.

Duration of a Lithuania Work Visa

A long-stay visa is issued for a maximum period of one year. You can extend it when you apply for a temporary residence permit, and your employer applies for an extension of the work permit. You can renew it annually. After five years, you can obtain a permanent residence permit and Lithuanian citizenship.

Extending a Lithuania Work Visa

To extend your stay, you must apply for a work permit. Your employer must apply for an extension of the work permit one month prior to your permit expiration date. If your stay extends beyond one year, you must apply for a temporary residence permit to remain in Lithuania.

Bringing Your Family Along

If you have a valid work and temporary residence permit, you can invite your family members to join you. For your family members to join you, they must apply for a family reunification visa. This visa will allow them to stay with you as long as you valid permit.

 

Things to Know About Working in Lithuania

Working in Lithuania offers many advantages, from affordable living conditions to a quiet and peaceful lifestyle. But before applying for a work visa for Lithuania, there are some things you must know beforehand.

•             Health insurance. Health insurance is obligatory in Lithuania. All citizens residing in Lithuania must obtain health insurance or privalomasis sveikatos draudimas (PSD). You can also acquire health insurance in Lithuania at the National Health Insurance Fund (Valstybinė ligonių Kasa), a public service that issues medical insurance. However, you can only apply for health insurance if you have a valid temporary residence permit and are currently working in Lithuania.

•             Living Costs and the Average Salary. Living in Lithuania is affordable, one of the main reasons many foreigners want to live there. Living comfortably in Lithuania can cost from €800 to €1400, and an extra plus point is that the average salary in Lithuania is €1400 a month.
